My Nano novel, let me tell you about it

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 12:05 AM
Nano! End of the world
At [info]luminessa's request, I have posted a synopsis of this years endeavor on my Nano page.

I'm going to post it here before I chicken out and delete the thing. XD

In a matriarchal kingdom, the royal house was blessed with three daughters. The eldest became queen after the passing of her mother as she was raised to do; the middle sister was heir presumptive and advisor to the eldest. While in some families, the birth of a third daughter might have led to a power struggle for the throne or outright revolution, the youngest was born marked by the goddess and was presented at an early age to the great city temple. It is common knowledge that when she reaches the age of 21, she will sever all ties to the throne and take her vows to become a priestess. The Queen married and bore a daughter of her own. It was a time of peace and prosperity. Then an envoy came, offering a treaty for trade between the kingdom and another and everything changed.

Now the Consort has been accused of treason and executed without trial. The Queen will no longer see her sisters, and a group of visiting women who came not long after the arrival of the envoy are the Queen’s constant companions. When the two younger sisters discover they might very well be next in line for the executioners block, they do the only thing they can think of: take their young niece and go on the run.

On their side they have the priestesses, a slightly mad Seer and the captain of the elite militia charged with guarding the Queen. Hopefully that will be enough to keep them alive.

And we're off!

Day two and I'm already behind. Hee. XD

But! Things were accomplished today.

*My story acquired a title!
*I came up with a VERY basic story outline that I can refer back to, if necessary.
*I actually figured out how I want the story to end! (this is a huge deal for me, as I STILL haven't come up with an ending to last years Nano story.)

Now, I just need the word count to reflect said progress.

5 days to go...

5 days until Nano starts. *fidgets*

I'm still waffling between my two story ideas.

[info]baensidhe and [info]shibby_kiki, your input would be much appreciated. :D

The final countdown to NaNo '08 begins...

Nano! End of the world
Time to brush the metaphorical cobwebs off of this thing.

In just ten short days, NaNo '08 starts at the stroke of midnight!

Those 50k words are going down...I hope. XD
Pushing Daisies - Chuck
It's been long November and there's reason to believe, maybe next year will be better than the last.

I know it's only 11:30pm and technically I do still have another half hour, during which I could continue to feverishly write, but I've decided to stop here. For all intents and purposes, this year of Nano is done. My final word count, is 27,351 words.

Despite what the Nano site has declared, with the purple winners sign next to my name, I didn't win. Why you ask, does the site then declare otherwise? Because technology clearly hates me. (I am never using the site's built in word counter again. EVER.) I followed the instructions and copied in my entire story and for some reason it decided to count it twice. It took me to the winner's page and while it did let me manually change my word count again to show what the final number actually is, the winner's sign refuses to go away.

It mocks me.

Anyway.

I'm proud of the work I did this month. I'm proud I didn't give up, when I suddenly got promoted to full time less than a week before the month started. I'm proud that I didn't throw in the towel when one of my co-workers passed away suddenly on the sixth day of Nano, even if it took me three full days to start writing again. I'm proud that I didn't quit when I got sick for two days and couldn't even look at the computer screen without feeling sick and dizzy.

Last year, I barely passed 1000 words.

This year, I wrote 27,351 words.

Next year, I will try again. And maybe I will win.

That being said, it is my intention to finish this story. [info]sarinda has asked for a copy for Christmas and I can't refuse her. (Damn you!) So, I will need some help figuring out some of the details I need to wrap everything up. [info]baensidhe and [info]shibby_kiki, I'm hoping you're still willing to help me out.

Thank you to everyone who supported, cheered me on and tolerated me this month. I couldn't have gotten this far without you.

Go baensidhe!

It took 26 days, but I passed the 25,000 word mark. I am proud of myself.

And pointedly ignoring that I'm supposed to manage another 25k before midnight on Friday.

Why can't all the days be like this? Why?

Nano! End of the world
Progress today: 3032 words written tonight, bringing my total word count to 20,083 words!

I HAVE BROKEN 20, 000 WORDS!

...I will concentrate on this, and not the fact that I am woefully behind. XD

Half way through and utterly lost..

Fakir! Writer's block
Day 16 and I am 9867 words behind.

I have tons of ideas and no idea at all about how to implement them.

Help?

Day 12 word count.

  • Nov. 13th, 2007 at 1:38 AM
Fakir! Writer's block
14, 091 words.

Tomorrow, I may actually paste a story excerpt. Maybe. Something new and different for me.

In news related to actual story content: the two scientists that remained mostly nameless, have both acquired names. This pleases me.

And now for something slightly silly. I sorta lost myself in writing with itunes open and didn't even realize I had the same song on repeat the whole time. In the time it took me to write 1000 words, I listened to the same song 64 times. *

* Ok, so the song is only a minute and 33 seconds long, but still. I'm amused. XD

Day 11 word count...

Fakir! Writer's block
13,039 words.

And now, I sleep.

Day 10 word count!

11,626 words.

[info]baensidhe, I stand in awe of your ever growing word count. Seriously. :) You have become my Nano guru.

Damn you real life, lay offa me ok?

Word count!
So due to an unforeseen and very upsetting event this week (which some of you have heard about, if you've spoken to me online or on the phone) I have now lost three days of writing time. >.<

I know this is early in the game yet, I still have lots of time to play catch up, but still...  It's worrisome.

[info]afraclose, you'll appreciate this icon I think. I made it the other night from that image you posted.

Broke 10k!

On to today! Total word count: 10,301.

I HAVE BROKEN 10K.

Today's word count PWNS yesterday's. My total word count is now up to: 8,631.

For my own purposes: That is 2351words typed today. Hooray!

And now I go to bed. Cause I have a meeting with my boss today tomorrow.  Whoops.

... I regret nothing!

Today's word count

Not a good writing day. I'm only up to 6,280 words...

But I can't think anymore tonight so I'll try to make up the difference tomorrow.

Nano site has been down since early this afternoon, so I can't update my word count. Boo.

So day three's word count: 5,454 words. Not as high as some, but I'm still chugging along. :)
